The Indian rupee weakened by 30 paise to 85.88 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, amid escalating geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan.
According to forex traders, the rising tensions have triggered a risk-off mood in the market, dampening investor sentiment and pressuring the domestic currency. Additionally, strong demand for the US dollar added to the rupee’s decline.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 85.88 against the greenback, marking a 30 paise drop from its previous close.
