Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty indicates a flat start; Asia-Pacific markets gain

Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a flat note on May 8, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,419 earlier this morning.

The Indian stock markets have remained largely steady despite recent military strikes on terrorist camps across the border in Pakistan.

Market sentiment is likely to be influenced by the US Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates unchanged amid persistent concerns over rising inflation and increasing unemployment.

Additionally, geopolitical tensions following India’s targeting of nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir may weigh on investor confidence. Market participants will also be closely watching quarterly earnings reports from companies such as Larsen & Toubro and Britannia Industries.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 80746.78 up by 105.71 points or by 0.13 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24414.4 up by 34.8 points or by 0.14 %.

On the global front, Asian stocks traded in a tight range at the open after the Federal Reserve reiterated it isn’t in a rush to lower interest rates, and investors awaited the trade negotiations between China and the US before taking risky bets.

US stocks advanced on Wednesday in choppy trading, buoyed as semiconductor stocks rallied late on a report that regulations on artificial intelligence chips would be loosened.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 284.97 points, or 0.70%, to 41,113.97, the S&P 500 gained 24.37 points, or 0.43%, to 5,631.28 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 48.50 points, or 0.27%, to 17,738.16.
