MARKET COMMENTARY

Markets in India were likely headed for a weak start on Monday, indicated GIFT Nifty futures, as they were trading marginally behind Nifty futures' last close, at 24,928.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 81224.75 up by 218.14 points or by 0.27 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24854.05 up by 104.2 points or by 0.42 %.

On the global front, markets in the Asia-Pacific region were slightly higher as traders assessed the rate cut announced by China's central bank on Monday morning.

The people's Bank of China (PBOC) said it would cut the one-year loan prime rate (LPR) to 3.1 per cent, down 25 bps, while the five-year LPR has been trimmed to 3.6 per cent. Japan's Nikkei 225 was up slightly by 0.15 per cent, while the broader Topix was down by 0.14 per cent.

South Korea's Kospi was up by 0.68 per cent, and the small-cap Kosdaq was ahead by 0.05 per cent. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was trading 0.7 per cent higher.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Wipro Ltd. 37326527.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 34750795.00, ITC Ltd. 21778099.00, Axis Bank Ltd. 20829666.00, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. 14028398.00,

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 300.75 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 104145.40 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 502449 with a total turnover of Rs. 34373.23 Crore.

Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1534961 with a total turnover of Rs. 122015.21 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 195815272 with a total turnover of Rs. 13502063.21 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 7927186 with a total turnover of Rs. 641127.22 Crore.

The FIIs on 18/10/2024 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 10357.39 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 521.92 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 17660.38 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 880.17 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -7302.99 Crore and Rs. -358.25
