In a significant push towards sustainable energy and India's Net Zero goals, NTPC Limited and its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) signed multiple agreements worth ?96,000 crore with the Government of Chhattisgarh at the Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit 2025 in Raipur. The agreements cover nuclear, pumped hydro, and renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid sources.
Nuclear Power Expansion: NTPC signed an MoU with the Chhattisgarh government to establish a 4,200 MW nuclear power plant in the state, with an estimated investment of Rs 80,000 crore.
Pumped Hydro Storage: A second MoU was signed between Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) and NTPC for a 1,200 MW pumped hydro storage project at Sikaser in Gariyaband district, with an investment of approximately ?5,876 crore.
Renewable Energy Growth: NGEL and CSPGCL signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to set up 2 GW of renewable energy projects in Chhattisgarh, with an investment of around Rs 10,000 crore. This initiative will support CSPGCL’s Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO) and Chhattisgarh DISCOM’s Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO).
The agreements were signed in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary for Energy Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, CSPGCL MD Shri Sanjiv Kumar Katiyar, and other state officials. The NTPC team was represented by Shri Pradipta Kumar Mishra (RED WR-II & Ash NI), Shri Prasenjit Pal (ED, Nuclear), Shri J.C. Kakoti (GM, Hydro), and Shri Bimal Gopalachari (AGM, NGEL).
