The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has initiated the 70th round of its Quarterly Order Books, Inventories and Capacity Utilisation Survey (OBICUS), covering the period from April to June 2025 (Q1: 2025–26).
Conducted quarterly since 2008, OBICUS gathers detailed operational data from the manufacturing sector. The survey collects information on new orders received during the quarter, the order backlog at the beginning, pending orders at the end, and inventory levels—segmented into raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. It also captures production data (both in quantity and value) and changes in installed capacity, helping estimate capacity utilisation (CU) for the quarter.
These insights are crucial for the RBI’s monetary policy formulation, and the survey results are published regularly on the central bank’s website.
For this round, the RBI will directly approach selected manufacturing companies. However, other eligible companies are also encouraged to participate by downloading the survey questionnaire available under the ‘Forms’ section (located in the ‘More Links’ section at the bottom of the homepage) on the RBI website: www.rbi.org.in. Completed and authenticated survey forms should be submitted via email to the contact address provided in the questionnaire.
The RBI assures that all company-level data collected through this survey are kept strictly confidential and are not disclosed under any circumstances.
