The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Aurobindo Society (SAS) to advance inclusive education for children with disabilities. This collaboration supports the implementation of key provisions under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016—particularly Sections 16, 17, and 47—which emphasize the right to inclusive and equitable education.
As part of the agreement, the Sri Aurobindo Society will roll out ‘Project Inclusion’ through its ‘Rupantar Programme’. The initiative will be delivered via a mobile app and a web-based platform, offering training programs and issuing e-certificates upon completion. The project aims to enhance the skills of educators, rehabilitation professionals, school counsellors, general teachers, and other stakeholders involved in inclusive education.
In addition to training and awareness, the partnership will also focus on innovation and research in inclusive teaching methods and tools. A key component of the initiative is its planned expansion to remote and challenging regions, such as Leh, under the Leh Inclusion Initiative—furthering the Department’s goal of creating a more inclusive education ecosystem nationwide.
