Post-Session: Sensex sheds 153 pts; RIL falls 2%; Smallcap stocks outperform

Benchmark equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 pared the early gains to settle in the negative territory on Tuesday.



Bears took the reins on the D-Street as 21 out of 30 constituent stocks of BSE Sensex ended in red, dragged by Bajaj Finance, Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and Tech Mahindra with losses extending up to 2.47 per cent. Conversely, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, Adani Ports, and UltraTech Cement were among 9 stocks that ended in green with gains extending up to 1.95 per cent.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 81820.12 down by -152.93 points or by -0.19 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25057.35 down by -70.6 points or by -0.28 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 82300.44 and intraday low of 81635.57 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25212.05 and intraday low of 25008.15



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1255.45,+1.90%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1717.90,+1.26%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 3070.50,+1.01%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11404.95,+0.83%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1870.05,+0.76%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 7013.10,-2.73%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2687.90,-2.09%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 155.65,-1.67%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1000.50,-1.19%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 917.45,-1.14%), among others.



Realty index was at 8421.31 up by 170.57 points or by 2.07%. Sunteck Realty Ltd. (Rs. 595.85,+7.53%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 1813.85,+5.12%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 1318.55,+3.23%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 1655.20,+2.64%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 3164.70,+2.37%),.

Metal index was at 33076.67 down by -522.88 points or by -1.56%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 218.85,-3.38%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 968.75,-2.58%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 130.95,-2.46%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 726.95,-2.13%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 232.10,-2.07%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4289 , shares advanced were 2182 while 1982 shares declined and 125 were unchanged.
