Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals gap-up open for India on firm global cues

Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open higher on March 18, following positive cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 22,727.50 earlier this morning.



Benchmark indices started the week on strong note, with the Nifty 50 rising 0.5 percent to close above 22,500 on a day of supportive global cues with weak market breadth.



On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74169.95 up by 341.04 points or by 0.46 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22508.75 up by 111.55 points or by 0.5 %.



On the global front, Asian stocks climbed, buoyed by US data that eased recession concerns and renewed bets on Chinese tech companies.



Wall Street stocks ended higher and gold held near USD 3,000 per ounce on Monday after mixed economic data and ahead of talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at ending the Ukraine war.



The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 353.44 points, or 0.85%, to 41,841.63, the S&P 500 rose 36.18 points, or 0.64%, to 5,675.12 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 54.58 points, or 0.31%, to 17,808.66.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 122990 with a total turnover of Rs. 19659.31 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1109628 with a total turnover of Rs. 63633.86 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 65714112 with a total turnover of Rs. 10950790.65 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5929933 with a total turnover of Rs. 360017.17 Crore.



The FIIs on 17/03/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 11539.37 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 534.37 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 12396.63 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 89.60 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -857.26 Crore and Rs. 444.77
