Post-Session: Sensex surges 521 points, closes above 80,000 mark to hit 2025 high

Benchmark equity indices - the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty extended the winning run to seventh straight trading session on Wednesday, backed by solid gains in IT stocks, while banking shares took a breather.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 80116.49 up by 520.9 points or by 0.65 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24328.95 up by 161.7 points or by 0.67 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80254.55 and intraday low of 79506.9 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24359.3 and intraday low of 24119.95



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1594.30,+7.72%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1439.30,+4.63%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 659.90,+4.59%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1474.85,+3.69%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2917.40,+3.56%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1923.10,-1.98%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2226.70,-1.80%), State Bank of India (Rs. 813.30,-1.11%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1206.50,-0.87%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 430.75,-0.68%), among others.



IT index was at 34842.92 up by 1339.14 points or by 4%. HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1594.30,+7.72%), Onward Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 268.20,+6.75%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 7395.00,+6.33%), Latent View Analytics Ltd. (Rs. 415.00,+5.83%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1357.00,+5.75%),.



Bankex index was at 63204.91 down by -601.84 points or by -0.94%. HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1923.10,-1.98%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2226.70,-1.80%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 18.42,-1.50%), Canara Bank (Rs. 99.44,-1.17%), State Bank of India (Rs. 813.30,-1.11%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4364 , shares advanced were 2199 while 1986 shares declined and 179 were unchanged.
