Mid-Session: Sensex down 256 pts to 79,860; smallcaps outperform

Indian benchmark equity indices were trading in the red on Thursday, following the government's announcement of economic and diplomatic actions against Pakistan in response to a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.



At 12:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 79860.18 down by -256.31 points or by -0.32 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24256.9 down by -72.05 points or by -0.3 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80173.92 and intraday low of 79793.21 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24347.85 and intraday low of 24239.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 832.60,+4.87%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12107.55,+1.33%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1802.55,+0.76%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 664.50,+0.70%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 432.80,+0.48%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2329.10,-3.84%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1849.90,-1.69%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2872.85,-1.53%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1406.30,-1.24%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1587.45,-0.43%), among others.



HCS index was at 43065.08 up by 372.07 points or by 0.87%. Thyrocare Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 870.90,+13.27%), Morepen Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 61.16,+12.36%), Natco Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 944.00,+11.70%), Vimta Labs Ltd. (Rs. 1163.45,+10.99%), Suven Life Sciences Ltd. (Rs. 141.45,+8.06%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4097 , shares advanced were 2210 while 1686 shares declined and 201 were unchanged.
