Post-Session: Sensex ends higher; Nifty tops 24,300 as Reliance soars 5%

Benchmark BSE Sensex soared by 1,006 points to close above 80,000 level on Monday as a sharp rally in Reliance Industries and private banks, and foreign fund inflows helped stock markets cut short two days of fall amid India-Pakistan border tensions.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 80218.37 up by 1005.84 points or by 1.27 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24328.5 up by 289.15 points or by 1.2 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80321.88 and intraday low of 79341.35 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24355.1 and intraday low of 24054.05



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1368.50,+5.27%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1841.80,+3.08%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 142.05,+2.42%), State Bank of India (Rs. 817.60,+2.36%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1192.70,+2.35%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1549.40,-1.89%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12108.25,-1.05%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2319.45,-0.52%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 227.25,-0.48%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2404.15,-0.42%), among others.



Oil&Gas index was at 26493.02 up by 746.31 points or by 2.9%. Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1368.50,+5.27%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 310.00,+4.94%), Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 185.40,+4.04%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 392.00,+3.20%), Adani Total Gas Ltd. (Rs. 616.90,+2.86%),.



IT index was at 34850.67 down by -29.68 points or by -0.09%. Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1556.00,-4.53%), Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1029.00,-2.56%), Black Box Ltd. (Rs. 393.10,-2.38%), eMudhra Ltd. (Rs. 786.00,-2.25%), Ksolves India Ltd. (Rs. 432.20,-2.21%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4426 , shares advanced were 2068 while 2143 shares declined and 215 were unchanged.
