Sensex, Nifty firm; CGS, TECK stocks support

Indian stock markets kicked off the second half of calendar year 2025 on a strong note, with benchmark indices posting modest gains in early trade.



Among the top performers on the Nifty 50 index were Apollo Hospitals, Asian Paints, Bharat Electronics, Adani Enterprises, HCL Tech, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, and Jio Financial Services, which gained up to 4%.



The upbeat sentiment was driven by positive global cues, strong institutional flows, and renewed investor confidence in domestic growth prospects. Sectorally, healthcare, IT, and financials led the rally, indicating broad-based buying across the board.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83850.64 up by 244.18 points or by 0.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25580.65 up by 63.6 points or by 0.25 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83874.29 and intraday low of 83597.51 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25589.75 and intraday low of 25513.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2376.00,+1.48%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1518.00,+1.16%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3213.55,+0.92%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2024.45,+0.75%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 692.80,+0.69%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1185.60,-1.12%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1664.00,-0.76%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 262.60,-0.55%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 333.75,-0.36%), State Bank of India (Rs. 817.50,-0.35%), among others.



CGS index was at 73001.13 up by 668.36 points or by 0.92%. Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 434.20,+2.96%), Carborundum Universal Ltd. (Rs. 995.00,+2.92%), Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1994.30,+2.56%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 3313.85,+1.90%), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 4936.80,+1.32%),.



Metal index was at 31624 down by -71.95 points or by -0.23%. NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 68.36,-2.37%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 190.20,-1.27%), Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 701.15,-0.61%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 937.00,-0.47%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 449.20,-0.37%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3363 , shares advanced were 2015 while 1168 shares declined and 180 were unchanged.
