Post-Session: Markets end higher in highly volatile trade led by bank stocks

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed higher on Friday after a highly volatile session, supported by buying in banking stocks and a rally in the US markets.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 83432.89 up by 193.42 points or by 0.23 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25461 up by 55.7 points or by 0.22 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83477.86 and intraday low of 83015.83 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25470.25 and intraday low of 25331.65



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 925.25,+1.60%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1640.20,+1.36%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2339.80,+1.19%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1442.65,+1.15%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1726.50,+0.92%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 163.00,-1.72%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1655.05,-1.07%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12641.00,-0.87%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 856.20,-0.72%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1425.00,-0.42%), among others.



Oil&Gas index was at 28356.53 up by 352.75 points or by 1.26%. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 346.30,+4.54%), Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 226.25,+3.22%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 151.65,+2.60%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 444.65,+1.88%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1527.40,+0.56%),.



Metal index was at 31854.71 down by -146.72 points or by -0.46%. Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 680.35,-2.48%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 163.00,-1.72%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 134.90,-1.10%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 950.00,-0.63%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 1721.35,-0.47%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4401 , shares advanced were 2369 while 1862 shares declined and 170 were unchanged.
