Sensex slips 675 points; IT stocks tumble

Indian benchmarks witnessed sharp decline by trading nearly 675 points lower during the late noon trading session tracking the mixed in the Asian markets. In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index, and the Nifty SmallCap index fell 0.75 per cent and 0.96 per cent, respectively.



On the corporate front, Tamilnadu Telecommunications (TN Telecom) shares hit a 52-week high of ₹26.11 per share on the BSE today. Shares of Bosch, an auto-ancillary company, rallied 3.4 per cent to a high of ₹37,410 levels, in intra-day trade on Friday. While GTPL Hathway share price slipped 4.9 per cent in trade on Friday on BSE, logging an intraday low at Rs 115.8 per share.



At 14:29 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82513.32 down by -676.96 points or by -0.81 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25168.4 down by -186.85 points or by -0.74 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83040.74 and intraday low of 82451.5 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25322.45 and intraday low of 25136.75.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2525.00,+4.81%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1675.45,+0.74%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1172.80,+0.71%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 264.00,+0.46%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 855.85,+0.38%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3271.45,-3.28%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1920.00,-2.30%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3095.25,-2.10%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1494.35,-1.51%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1593.85,-1.42%), among others.



Among the sectors, HCS index was at 44421.1 up by 165 points or by 0.37%. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 2194.75,+15.20%), GPT Healthcare Ltd. (Rs. 175.15,+7.52%), Solara Active Pharma Sciences Ltd. (Rs. 659.85,+6.00%), Wockhardt Ltd. (Rs. 1758.00,+3.58%), Neuland Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 12290.00,+3.26%),.



On the flip side, BSETECk index was at 18107.41 down by -324.53 points or by -1.76%. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3271.45,-3.28%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 137.90,-2.82%), PVR INOX Ltd. (Rs. 987.25,-2.43%), PB Fintech Ltd. (Rs. 1789.90,-2.30%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1920.00,-2.30%).



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4307 , shares advanced were 1577 while 2532 shares declined and 198 were unchanged.
