South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has taken a major step toward enhancing hygiene, sustainability, and inclusivity in its mining areas by installing 43 bio-toilets under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0.
Of these, 16 bio-toilets were recently inaugurated in SECL’s Sohagpur Area, while 27 were commissioned in the Bhatgaon Area. The initiative aims to strengthen sanitation infrastructure, particularly in mining zones where conventional facilities are limited.
Aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the bio-toilets promote clean and eco-friendly workplaces by converting waste into non-toxic water and gas through microbial action, thereby reducing environmental pollution and conserving water.
The project also underscores SECL’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring safer and more hygienic facilities—especially for women working in field and mining environments.
Through this initiative, SECL continues to uphold responsible mining practices and improve the quality of life for workers and surrounding communities.
Special Campaign 5.0, conducted from 2nd to 31st October 2025 by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, focuses on cleanliness, record management, and the timely disposal of pending matters across government departments and PSUs. SECL has actively supported the campaign through various cleanliness and digital transformation drives.
