L&T and BAE Systems Win Indian Army Contract for Licensed Production of BvS10 Sindhu Vehicles

The Indian Army has signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the licensed manufacturing of the BvS10 Sindhu, an upgraded, India-specific variant of the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle developed by BAE Systems H„gglunds. Under the agreement, L&T will produce the vehicles at its Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, with technical and design support from BAE Systems. The contract also includes a comprehensive integrated logistics support package covering initial deployment, maintenance, and life-cycle sustainment.

The BvS10 Sindhu, tailored for India’s diverse terrains—including high altitude, desert, marshland, and amphibious environments—successfully completed extensive trials demonstrating superior performance in both sea-level and high-altitude conditions.

Tommy Gustafsson Rask, Managing Director of BAE Systems H„gglunds, said the programme underscores the company’s commitment to Make in India, local manufacturing, and technology transfer. L&T’s Arun Ramchandani added that the contract reinforces India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and L&T’s strength in delivering defence-critical systems at scale.

The partnership aims to provide the Indian Army with enhanced operational, strategic, and tactical mobility while strengthening India’s defence self-reliance. The BvS10’s articulated design allows exceptional manoeuvrability across snow, ice, sand, rocks, and swamps, and its amphibious capability enables operation in flooded areas and coastal waters. The modular platform supports multiple configurations, including troop transport, command and control, medical evacuation, repair and recovery, logistics, situational awareness, and mounted weapon systems.

The BvS10 platform is currently in service in Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine, and the UK, and is on order for the German Army.
