Centre Releases XV Finance Commission Grants to Strengthen Village Councils in Mizoram

The Union Government has released Rs 14.80 crore as Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) grants during FY 2025–26 to Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) in Mizoram. The release represents the first installment of Untied Grants for the financial year and will benefit all 816 eligible Village Councils across the state.

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation), recommends the release of XV Finance Commission grants to states for Rural Local Bodies, which are subsequently disbursed by the Ministry of Finance. These grants are released in two installments during a financial year.

Untied Grants are meant to help Rural Local Bodies address location-specific needs across the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, excluding expenditure on salaries and establishment costs. Meanwhile, Tied Grants are earmarked for essential civic services, including sanitation and maintenance of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, waste management, treatment of human excreta and fecal sludge, as well as drinking water supply, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling initiatives.
