Maharashtra Signs Reform-Linked MoU Under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0

Maharashtra has signed a reform-linked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, marking its formal entry into the Centre’s revamped rural drinking water framework approved by the Union Cabinet on March 10, 2026.

The agreement focuses on strengthening service delivery, accountability, and long-term sustainability of rural water supply systems. It introduces key reforms such as community-based monitoring through Jal Seva Aankalan, enhanced transparency via digital platforms, and structured handover of completed water schemes to local bodies for better ownership and maintenance.

The MoU also promotes greater public participation through initiatives like Jal Utsav campaigns and mandates data-driven planning using a Decision Support System for improved water resource management.

The initiative aims to ensure regular, safe, and adequate drinking water supply to every rural household, while enhancing community involvement and supporting long-term water security in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
