Sensex drops 540 pts to 80,748; Metal, PSB, Auto drag most

Indian benchmark equity indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 were lower at open on Friday, following the lower overnight close on Wall Street.



At 9:50 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80748.24 down by -541.72 points or by -0.67 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24397.85 down by -150.85 points or by -0.61 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 81224.08 and intraday low of 80672.36 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24520.8 and intraday low of 24380



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1622.85,+0.72%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1248.45,+0.35%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2350.45,+0.25%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2229.85,+0.25%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 146.75,-2.72%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 980.45,-2.59%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 975.95,-2.20%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3015.20,-1.72%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 350.45,-1.41%), among others.



TECk index was at 20374.65 up by -35.11 points or by -0.17%. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1624.00,+0.79%), Hughes Ispat Ltd. (Rs. 85.99,+0.64%), Network18 Media & Investments Ltd. (Rs. 74.61,+0.57%), LTIMindtree Ltd. (Rs. 6678.20,+0.14%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 9198.70,+0.11%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3396 , shares advanced were 975 while 2310 shares declined and 111 were unchanged.
