Sensex 591 pts higher, atop 80,000; Nifty above 23,300; IT, auto gain

Indian benchmark equity indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50 opened higher on Wednesday, amid positive global cues, after US President Trump's comments that tariffs on China may not be as steep as previously announced. He also indicated that he may not fire Fed chair Jerome Powell.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80187.56 up by 591.97 points or by 0.74 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24285.85 up by 118.6 points or by 0.49 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80254.55 and intraday low of 79945.38 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24359.3 and intraday low of 24275.5



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1581.75,+6.87%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1435.20,+4.33%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1472.30,+3.51%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2891.80,+2.65%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 645.50,+2.31%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2259.90,-0.34%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 236.70,-0.32%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 9239.50,-0.29%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1956.50,-0.28%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 432.60,-0.25%), among others.



IT index was at 34642.13 up by 1138.35 points or by 3.4%. HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1581.75,+6.87%), Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 982.65,+4.40%), Zensar Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 708.00,+4.34%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1435.20,+4.33%), Latent View Analytics Ltd. (Rs. 409.10,+4.32%),.



CDS index was at 58641.17 down by -95.76 points or by -0.16%. Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 1622.05,-2.56%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 345.35,-2.24%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 1320.05,-1.83%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 1097.55,-0.99%), Supreme Industries Ltd. (Rs. 3519.70,-0.21%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3300 , shares advanced were 2027 while 1112 shares declined and 161 were unchanged.
