Sensex drags 547 pts as India-Pak tensions spike

Indian benchmark equity indices fell on Friday, amid mixed global cues and the persistent threat of escalation between India and Pakistan.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 79254.38 down by -547.05 points or by -0.69 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24104 down by -142.7 points or by -0.59 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80130.66 and intraday low of 78605.81 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24365.45 and intraday low of 23847.85



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3448.35,+1.38%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1465.20,+1.32%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1485.35,+0.95%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12209.00,+0.38%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 821.40,+0.21%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1166.00,-3.42%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1196.80,-3.23%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2044.00,-2.92%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 230.00,-2.71%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 11643.80,-2.16%), among others.



IT index was at 34970.9 up by 167.45 points or by 0.48%. MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 2537.65,+2.88%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 5285.00,+2.47%), Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1664.35,+2.44%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 7427.05,+2.40%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1352.55,+1.64%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4222 , shares advanced were 724 while 3354 shares declined and 144 were unchanged.
