Markets trade lower; RBI MPC keeps repo rate unchanged at 5.5%

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty gave up early gains and were trading lower on Wednesday after the Reserve Bank of India opted to keep the policy rate unchanged at 5.5%, following three consecutive rate cuts, as it weighed ongoing uncertainties around global tariffs.



At 10:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80513.22 down by -197.03 points or by -0.24 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24602.5 down by -47.05 points or by -0.19 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80834.43 and intraday low of 80448.82 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24671.4 and intraday low of 24579.7



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2470.00,+1.32%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2015.60,+0.63%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2549.70,+0.56%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12352.95,+0.45%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1361.05,+0.26%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 805.65,-1.65%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1437.05,-1.56%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 297.55,-1.49%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 878.40,-1.46%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1463.95,-1.43%), among others.



Bankex index was at 61648.72 up by 28.26 points or by 0.05%. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2015.90,+0.64%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1446.35,+0.14%), State Bank of India (Rs. 801.50,+0.10%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1070.70,+0.01%),.



Realty index was at 6893.32 down by -157.02 points or by -2.23%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1545.00,-4.00%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 760.35,-2.61%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 1441.30,-2.29%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2068.25,-2.20%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 973.65,-1.87%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3878 , shares advanced were 1238 while 2438 shares declined and 202 were unchanged.
