Sensex down 224 pts, Nifty below 24,550

The Indian benchmark equity indices opened in negative territory on Thursday, following the imposition of an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports to the US by President Donald Trump, citing India’s ongoing imports of Russian crude oil.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80319.18 down by -224.81 points or by -0.28 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24518.95 down by -55.25 points or by -0.22 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80421.84 and intraday low of 80208.28 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24542.9 and intraday low of 24460.05



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 413.80,+0.44%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2240.45,+0.32%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3426.95,+0.30%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2497.45,+0.25%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1462.75,+0.23%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 643.90,-1.40%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1975.60,-1.33%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 295.45,-1.15%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1351.80,-1.09%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1918.35,-0.59%), among others.



HCS index was at 43500.55 up by 88.19 points or by 0.2%. Indraprastha Medical Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 478.00,+7.56%), Fortis Healthcare Ltd. (Rs. 894.60,+4.30%), Vimta Labs Ltd. (Rs. 646.80,+4.19%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1923.75,+3.90%), Wockhardt Ltd. (Rs. 1533.00,+3.80%),.



Power index was at 6621.06 down by -33.25 points or by -0.5%. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 229.75,-4.13%), Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 558.60,-1.46%), Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 944.45,-1.40%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 383.80,-0.49%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 331.05,-0.38%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3330 , shares advanced were 1433 while 1764 shares declined and 133 were unchanged.
