Sensex plunges 600 pts, Nifty below 24,600

Indian stocks continued to trade lower on Thursday, August 28, as investors digested the impact of 50 per cent tariffs on US exports that took effect Wednesday.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80181.18 down by -605.36 points or by -0.75 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24570.35 down by -141.7 points or by -0.57 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80775.71 and intraday low of 80093.52 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24702.65 and intraday low of 24507.2



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3640.00,+1.31%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3563.55,+0.68%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 14791.00,+0.54%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2496.95,+0.38%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 878.50,+0.23%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1452.40,-2.67%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1501.95,-1.82%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3105.65,-1.60%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 275.65,-1.48%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 959.30,-1.41%), among others.



CDS index was at 60591.26 up by 520.81 points or by 0.87%. Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd. (Rs. 512.35,+2.87%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3640.00,+1.31%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 1299.55,+1.18%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 1883.85,+1.02%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 1357.65,+0.78%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4368 , shares advanced were 1564 while 2618 shares declined and 186 were unchanged.
