Mid-Session: Sensex tops 82K, rises 429 pts; Nifty holds 25,150

Indian equity markets traded higher on Tuesday ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s monetary policy announcement, set for Wednesday.



At 12:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82215.39 up by 429.65 points or by 0.53 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25189.6 up by 120.4 points or by 0.48 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 82240.39 and intraday low of 81779.94 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25198.1 and intraday low of 25070.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2025.90,+2.78%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3660.00,+2.08%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1123.30,+1.72%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1931.45,+1.41%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 335.30,+1.22%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 1004.40,-0.56%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1210.00,-0.16%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1505.70,-0.16%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2499.55,-0.11%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1518.35,-0.09%), among others.



Power index was at 6783.31 up by 59.02 points or by 0.88%. Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 396.50,+2.22%), NHPC Ltd. (Rs. 88.39,+2.04%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 59.10,+1.77%), JSW Energy Ltd. (Rs. 540.80,+1.66%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 335.30,+1.22%),.



FMCG index was at 20817.77 down by 16.34 points or by 0.08%. Cupid Ltd. (Rs. 203.55,-1.93%), Eveready Industries India Ltd. (Rs. 438.85,-1.45%), Flair Writing Industries Ltd (Rs. 333.90,-1.45%), Bajaj Consumer Care Ltd. (Rs. 226.70,-1.37%), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (Rs. 1243.20,-1.12%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4336 , shares advanced were 2590 while 1522 shares declined and 224 were unchanged.
