Sensex rises 271 pts; Nifty tests 25,300

Indian stock markets traded higher during Wednesday’s intra-day session amid optimism over a potential early trade agreement between India and the US.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82652.43 up by 271.74 points or by 0.33 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25304.5 up by 65.4 points or by 0.26 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 82741.95 and intraday low of 82490.47 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25346.5 and intraday low of 25275.35



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 855.55,+2.86%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 15798.40,+1.46%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2048.05,+1.32%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12701.95,+0.98%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3172.00,+0.84%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 408.70,-1.08%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 170.25,-1.02%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3522.30,-1.00%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2060.70,-0.92%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 286.50,-0.64%), among others.



PSU index was at 19699.39 up by 224.82 points or by 1.15%. Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (Rs. 2595.80,+6.44%), IFCI Ltd. (Rs. 58.74,+4.74%), Bank of Maharashtra (Rs. 57.24,+3.90%), Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (Rs. 1883.45,+3.40%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 111.70,+3.04%),.



Metal index was at 32805.78 down by -251.51 points or by -0.76%. Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1031.95,-1.97%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 212.65,-1.76%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 453.95,-1.60%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 170.25,-1.02%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 749.00,-0.93%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4469 , shares advanced were 2393 while 1886 shares declined and 190 were unchanged.
