Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty end near day's low; metal, media drag

The market was unable to sustain its early gains and stayed largely rangebound for most of the session. In the final hour, selling pressure intensified, pulling the Nifty below 25,500 and pushing it to close near the day’s low, with weakness seen across sectors.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 83311.01 down by -148.14 points or by -0.18 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25509.7 down by -87.95 points or by -0.34 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83846.35 and intraday low of 83237.65 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25679.15 and intraday low of 25491.55



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2605.00,+4.76%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1495.75,+1.62%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3618.00,+1.02%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11934.00,+1.00%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3011.05,+0.71%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 270.20,-3.15%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 305.80,-2.44%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 1041.60,-1.45%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1320.40,-1.21%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 326.70,-1.21%), among others.



Auto index was at 59447.63 up by -43.18 points or by -0.07%. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3618.00,+1.02%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 15460.00,+0.58%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 141.15,+0.53%), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (Rs. 407.85,+0.33%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 5324.15,+0.28%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4562 , shares advanced were 1319 while 3084 shares declined and 159 were unchanged.
