Sensex surges 500 points; Nifty below 25,800

Stock markets in India opened higher on Wednesday, tracking strength in the Asian markets.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84380.67 up by 509.35 points or by 0.61 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25788.05 up by 93.1 points or by 0.36 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84387.34 and intraday low of 84166.75 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25850.2 and intraday low of 25786.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 310.50,+1.55%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 837.20,+1.37%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3087.40,+1.29%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1425.85,+1.20%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2067.00,+1.20%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1264.25,-0.31%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2421.90,-0.29%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2651.00,-0.15%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 15625.00,-0.09%), among others.



Auto index was at 61286.99 up by 745.21 points or by 1.23%. Sundram Fasteners Ltd. (Rs. 965.00,+1.37%), Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2360.40,+0.87%), UNO Minda Ltd. (Rs. 1322.45,+0.86%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 5456.30,+0.76%), Exide Industries Ltd. (Rs. 379.30,+0.60%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3464 , shares advanced were 2208 while 1067 shares declined and 189 were unchanged.
