Sensex surges 220 points; Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank top gainers

Stock markets in India were gradually recovering, erasing morning losses, led by buying in heavyweights like ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, and Asian Paints.



At 10:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84687.07 up by 220.56 points or by 0.26 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25924.2 up by 48.4 points or by 0.19 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84708.05 and intraday low of 84253.05 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25928.9 and intraday low of 25808.4



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2865.15,+3.31%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 888.80,+2.81%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 182.15,+1.96%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1385.30,+1.94%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2056.25,+1.00%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 304.75,-1.34%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 324.50,-0.96%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1446.20,-0.68%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3733.85,-0.53%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2072.65,-0.42%), among others.



Metal index was at 35425.97 up by 490.02 points or by 1.4%. Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 497.65,+3.28%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 532.95,+2.40%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 182.15,+1.96%), Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 740.60,+1.76%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 806.90,+1.62%),.



IT index was at 35953.65 down by -77.18 points or by -0.21%. Ramco Systems Ltd. (Rs. 592.00,-2.99%), Intellect Design Arena Ltd. (Rs. 1132.50,-1.55%), Netweb Technologies India Ltd. (Rs. 3483.90,-1.42%), Genesys International Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 477.90,-1.33%), Affle 3I Ltd. (Rs. 1753.35,-1.26%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4089 , shares advanced were 2290 while 1584 shares declined and 215 were unchanged.
