Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open on a softer note today, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading lower around 26,158.
On November 20, the domestic market extended its winning streak for the second straight session, with the Nifty reclaiming the 26,200 mark for the first time since September 2024. The uptrend was supported by Nvidia’s strong quarterly earnings and robust Q4 sales guidance.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 85632.68 up by 446.21 points or by 0.52 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26192.15 up by 139.5 points or by 0.54 %.
On the global front, Across Asia, markets were trading sharply lower, mirroring Wall Street’s weakness. Last seen, mainland China’s CSI 300 was down 1.16 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 1.82 per cent and South Korea’s KOSPI slumped 3.12 per cent.
Japan’s Nikkei slipped 1.7 per cent after core inflation — excluding fresh food and energy — edged up to 3.1 per cent in October from 3 per cent in September.
Overnight, US equities ended sharply lower, with the Dow Jones falling 0.84 per cent, the S&P 500 slipping 1.56 per cent, and the Nasdaq dropping 2.16 per cent.
