The benchmark indices ended marginally lower on Friday amid mixed global cues. Indian shares gave up early gains to end marginally lower on Friday as traders took profits in key sectors after recent gains to record highs.
On the global front, European stocks were little changed on Friday but were set for a monthly gain on rising bets of a Federal Reserve interest-rate cut in December and growing hopes for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Whereas the pan European Stoxx 600 was marginally lower at 574.80 but was on track for its best weekly showing since early October. The German DAX and France's CAC 40 were marginally lower while the U.K.'s FTSE 100 inched up 0.1 percent.
On the other side Oil prices were little changed in lackluster trade on Friday after a major CME shutdown. While Gold was on track for its fourth monthly gain on Friday as the dollar weakened amid investor optimism that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in December.
Among sectoral indices, Nifty IT, Realty and Oil & Gas slipped 0.11 per cent, 0.19 per cent and 0.69 per cent, respectively. In contrast, Nifty Auto rose 0.62 per cent and Nifty Pharma gained 0.59 per cent.
On the corporate front, Eternal and Power Grid Corp both fell around 1 percent while Mahindra & Mahindra rallied 2.2 percent and Sun Pharma added 1.2 percent.
The 30-share benchmark ended at 85706.67 down by -13.71 points or by -0.02 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26202.95 down by -12.6 points or by -0.05 %.
During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 85969.89 and intraday low of 85577.82 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26280.75 and intraday low of 26172.40.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3757.80,+2.07%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1830.70,+1.17%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2126.30,+0.79%), State Bank of India (Rs. 979.55,+0.69%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2467.00,+0.65%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 270.00,-1.35%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 300.15,-0.83%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2101.05,-0.70%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1280.25,-0.55%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1559.70,-0.41%), among others.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4495 , shares advanced were 2137 while 2171 shares declined and 187 were unchanged.
