Indian markets are likely to remain under pressure for a fifth straight session on Thursday, as GIFT Nifty futures indicate a soft start, trading 44 points lower at 26,093.
Weekly F&O expiry for the Sensex, Weakness in the rupee along with continued FII selling is expected to weigh on sentiment.
On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 85106.81 down by -31.46 points or by -0.04 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25986 down by -46.2 points or by -0.18 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were mixed after Wall Street advanced on encouraging US jobs data, which boosted expectations of a potential Federal Reserve rate cut next week. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.3%, while the Topix rose 0.33%. South Korea’s Kospi slipped 0.45%, but the Kosdaq inched up 0.12%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 traded flat.
Overnight in the US, major indices closed higher after ADP data showed private employers cut 32,000 jobs in November, compared to a revised addition of 47,000 in October and below market expectations of a 40,000 increase. Traders now see an 89% probability of a rate cut at the Fed's December 9–10 policy meeting. By the close, the Dow climbed 0.86%, the S&P 500 rose 0.30%, and the Nasdaq advanced 0.17%.
