Sensex up 158 points; NSE Nifty at 26000

After a weak start on Thursday, benchmark indices quickly bounced back into positive territory. IT stocks drove the rebound as the rupee slipped to a record low of 90.56 against the US dollar.



At 9:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85265.38 up by 158.57 points or by 0.19 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26000.8 up by 14.8 points or by 0.06 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85283.5 and intraday low of 84949.98 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26001.95 and intraday low of 25938.95



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3225.00,+1.42%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1561.25,+1.26%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1659.00,+1.18%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2984.75,+1.11%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1590.80,+0.79%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 293.25,-1.54%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 266.80,-0.56%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11534.10,-0.55%), State Bank of India (Rs. 946.35,-0.53%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 321.85,-0.34%), among others.



IT index was at 37036.05 up by 388.41 points or by 1.06%. InfoBeans Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 598.70,+3.19%), L&T Technology Services Ltd. (Rs. 4615.00,+2.35%), Ramco Systems Ltd. (Rs. 585.00,+2.24%), Sonata Software Ltd. (Rs. 372.55,+2.24%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1890.00,+1.96%),.



Power index was at 6503.4 down by -10.03 points or by -0.15%. Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 1290.20,-0.77%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 266.80,-0.56%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 277.30,-0.43%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 321.85,-0.34%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 382.90,-0.26%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3449 , shares advanced were 1752 while 1494 shares declined and 203 were unchanged.
