Sensex, Nifty volatile; FMCG stocks weak

Indian equity markets saw a volatile start on Thursday, oscillating between gains and losses, despite the US Federal Reserve’s 25-basis-point rate cut announced on Wednesday.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84159.21 down by -232.06 points or by -0.27 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25721.45 down by -36.55 points or by -0.14 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84540.57 and intraday low of 84158.88 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25803.05 and intraday low of 25719



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 287.15,+1.34%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 163.60,+0.86%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 16082.80,+0.49%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2134.15,+0.23%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11339.00,+0.18%), among others.





The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3778.00,-1.75%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 262.65,-1.02%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2781.85,-0.81%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3166.10,-0.69%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1654.20,-0.68%), among others.



Metal index was at 33789.87 up by 154.7 points or by 0.46%. Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 524.85,+2.39%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 266.70,+1.43%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 163.60,+0.86%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 528.25,+0.81%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 826.60,+0.58%),.



CDS index was at 58669.08 down by -408.45 points or by -0.69%. Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3778.00,-1.75%), Supreme Industries Ltd. (Rs. 3247.95,-1.38%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3369 , shares advanced were 1402 while 1788 shares declined and 179 were unchanged.
