Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open on a weak note on December 16, tracking negative cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading lower around 26,073. The cautious start comes after markets snapped a two-day gaining streak on Monday, even as Nifty managed to hold above the 26,000 mark in a volatile session on December 15.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 85213.36 down by -54.3 points or by -0.06 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26027.3 down by -19.65 points or by -0.08 %.

On the global front, markets across the Asia-Pacific region were trading lower on Tuesday, tracking an overnight fall on Wall Street as investors continued rotating out of US artificial intelligence–related stocks. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.27 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi extended its losses for a second consecutive session, dropping 0.75 per cent.

Meanwhile, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was largely flat.

Overnight in the US, Wall Street;s major indices closed lower on Monday as investors prepared for a busy week of economic data and evaluated reports on potential Federal Reserve candidates, along with policymakers’ comments for clues on the interest-rate outlook. The S&P 500 slipped 0.16 per cent after starting the session in positive territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged slightly lower by 0.09 per cent, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite declined 0.59 per cent.

The FIIs on 15/12/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12346.15 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 799.75 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 12211.37 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 429.31 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 134.78 Crore and Rs. 370.44
