Sensex slips 422 pts; Axis Bank, Eternal down 3%

Indian equity benchmark indices traded with a negative bias today, weighed down by weakness in metal and financial stocks.



At 9:50 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84790.96 down by -422.4 points or by -0.5 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25942 down by -85.3 points or by -0.33 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85059.96 and intraday low of 84787.56 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25980.75 and intraday low of 25901.65



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1257.00,+1.20%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3910.00,+1.14%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2089.95,+0.87%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2792.80,+0.45%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3618.10,+0.29%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1238.95,-3.52%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 289.25,-3.05%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 170.60,-1.27%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1588.00,-1.19%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1668.15,-0.95%), among others.



FMCG index was at 20242.32 up by 107.17 points or by 0.53%. The Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1925.15,+3.21%), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (Rs. 1197.60,+2.74%), Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd. (Rs. 363.80,+2.00%), Avanti Feeds Ltd. (Rs. 826.05,+1.85%), HMA Agro Industries Ltd. (Rs. 29.71,+1.78%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3530 , shares advanced were 1552 while 1795 shares declined and 183 were unchanged.
