Post-Session: Stock markets surge after four days of decline; Sensex jumps 447 points

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty surged on Friday, snapping a four-day losing streak, in line with a rally in global markets. Sentiment improved after lower-than-expected US consumer price inflation data for November strengthened expectations of further interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 84929.36 up by 447.55 points or by 0.53 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25966.4 up by 150.85 points or by 0.58 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85067.5 and intraday low of 84734.96 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25993.35 and intraday low of 25880.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 263.70,+2.25%), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (Rs. 352.75,+1.98%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2798.90,+1.41%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1565.10,+1.34%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4074.20,+1.05%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1642.50,-1.14%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2159.50,-0.27%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1354.15,-0.20%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1745.00,-0.02%), among others.



Realty index was at 6870.1 up by 113.32 points or by 1.68%. Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 551.20,+3.69%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2047.00,+2.31%), Lodha Developers Ltd. (Rs. 1090.70,+2.03%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 690.85,+1.88%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 1832.20,+1.87%),.



Metal index was at 34843.13 down by 24.01 points or by 0.07%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 125.90,-0.98%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 588.90,-0.55%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 854.00,-0.36%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 76.26,-0.31%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1080.00,-0.17%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4516 , shares advanced were 2808 while 1533 shares declined and 175 were unchanged.
