Sensex zooms 588 points; Nifty atop 26,150

Indian equity markets were trading positive in a holiday-shortened week, extending Friday’s gains despite mixed global cues. Gains on Monday came amid buying in information technology (IT) and metal counters.



At 14:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85517.55 up by 588.19 points or by 0.69 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26165.9 up by 199.5 points or by 0.77 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85584.21 and intraday low of 85145.86 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26179.15 and intraday low of 26047.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1687.50,+2.92%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2146.55,+2.40%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1645.00,+1.99%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1668.00,+1.55%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 857.30,+1.51%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 974.55,-0.57%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2148.70,-0.50%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 5141.85,-0.14%), among others.



TECk index was at 19120.54 up by 370.52 points or by 1.98%. Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 6558.00,+3.13%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1687.50,+2.92%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 271.90,+2.86%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2147.80,+2.46%), Sun TV Network Ltd. (Rs. 556.30,+2.38%),.



Realty index was at 6864.33 down by -5.77 points or by -0.08%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1602.05,-1.25%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1660.00,-0.88%), Signatureglobal (India) Ltd. (Rs. 1138.25,-0.78%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2030.00,-0.71%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4654 , shares advanced were 2893 while 1547 shares declined and 214 were unchanged.
