Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open on a positive note on December 23, supported by favorable global cues. However, early signals from GIFT Nifty, which was trading slightly lower around 26,235, indicate some caution at higher levels.
The benchmarks kicked off the holiday-truncated week on a strong footing, with Nifty scaling above 26,150, driven by broad-based buying across sectors. Positive global sentiment, along with sustained inflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs), provided strong support to the market momentum.
On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 85567.48 up by 638.12 points or by 0.75 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26172.4 up by 206 points or by 0.79 %.
On the global front, Asian markets were trading higher, following AI-stocks led gains on the Wall Street. Last checked, Japan's Nikkei 225 index was trading almost flat, while South Korea's KOSPI index rose 0.73 per cent, and Australia's S&P ASX 200 was up 0.42 per cent.
US equity markets the holiday shortened week on a positive note, supported by a rise in artificial intelligence (AI) stocks. Overnight, the S&P 500 index rose 0.64 per cent, the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.52 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.47 per cent.

The FIIs on 22/12/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 28276.28 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1005.60 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 26108.94 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 616.29 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 2167.34 Crore and Rs. 389.31
