Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals subdued open; Asian stocks trade mixed

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open flat with a slight positive bias on December 29, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 26,099.



In the previous session on December 26, domestic equities extended losses for a second straight day, with the Nifty slipping below the 26,100 mark, reflecting cautious investor sentiment.



On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85041.45 down by -367.25 points or by -0.43 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26042.3 down by -99.8 points or by -0.38 %.



On the global front, Stock markets in Asia were trading mixed, while the global stock gauge traded near record highs. The MSCI AC Asia Pacific was up 0.38 per cent, led by gains in South Korea's Kospi and the Hang Seng index.



Wall Street ended last week near record highs but pared gains by the close, with the S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq slipping 0.03 per cent and 0.09 per cent, respectively.



Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Steel Ltd. 16904834.00, Eternal Ltd. 15744495.00, Bharat Electronics Ltd. 13284184.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 9360853.00, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. 8589856.00,



On NSE, total number of shares traded was 425.02 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 81553.79 Crore.



On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 192818 with a total turnover of Rs. 35816.74 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 4305287 with a total turnover of Rs. 292795.86 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 71627479 with a total turnover of Rs. 14039127.64 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 10700338 with a total turnover of Rs. 741692.67 Crore.



The FIIs on 26/12/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5334.45 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 20.52 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6891.44 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 333.07 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1556.99 Crore and Rs. -312.55
