Sensex, Nifty marginally up; Metal stocks gain

Indian equity indices opened flat with a mild positive bias on Monday, tracking subdued domestic and global cues, while metal and information technology stocks led the early gains.



At 9:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85123.87 up by 82.42 points or by 0.1 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26075.3 up by 33 points or by 0.13 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85250 and intraday low of 84992.82 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26106.8 and intraday low of 26044.15



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 173.00,+2.28%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 285.35,+1.33%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1625.80,+0.78%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4017.55,+0.65%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2763.15,+0.62%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1474.00,-0.89%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 263.50,-0.75%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1219.55,-0.69%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2006.80,-0.61%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 403.40,-0.22%), among others.

Metal index was at 36157.44 up by 498.81 points or by 1.4%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 137.75,+4.12%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 615.50,+2.40%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 173.00,+2.28%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1006.10,+1.99%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 647.00,+1.61%),.



HCS index was at 43830.95 down by -39.81 points or by -0.09%. Sigachi Industries Ltd. (Rs. 32.70,-3.71%), Hikal Ltd. (Rs. 229.00,-2.09%), Lincoln Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 472.00,-1.74%), Metropolis Healthcare Ltd. (Rs. 1888.40,-1.53%), Thyrocare Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 453.40,-1.47%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3843 , shares advanced were 1891 while 1737 shares declined and 215 were unchanged.
