Post-Session: Sensex declines for 4th day on foreign fund outflows

Benchmark Sensex declined by nearly 346 points while Nifty closed below 26,000 on Monday due to selling in utilities, IT and blue-chip oil & gas shares, foreign fund outflows and thin year-end trading.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 84695.54 down by -345.91 points or by -0.41 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25942.1 down by -100.2 points or by -0.38 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85250 and intraday low of 84637.86 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26106.8 and intraday low of 25920.3



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 172.25,+1.83%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2773.70,+1.00%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1280.65,+0.72%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 282.95,+0.48%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 325.50,+0.45%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1454.25,-2.22%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1630.20,-1.86%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 260.60,-1.85%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 839.50,-1.32%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2081.65,-1.14%), among others.



Oil&Gas index was at 28017.78 up by 82.37 points or by 0.29%. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 475.75,+1.73%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 371.50,+1.46%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 162.00,+1.22%), Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 195.00,+0.70%), Oil India Ltd. (Rs. 405.05,+0.57%),.



Power index was at 6431.87 down by -55.68 points or by -0.86%. NHPC Ltd. (Rs. 76.74,-2.04%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 260.60,-1.85%), JSW Energy Ltd. (Rs. 471.15,-1.69%), Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 1002.65,-1.50%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 1281.50,-1.39%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4721 , shares advanced were 1656 while 2849 shares declined and 216 were unchanged.
