Sensex surges 468 points, Nifty at 26,300; banks, metal, realty stocks rally

Indian benchmark equities continued trade higher tracking gains in heavyweight HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries amid mixed global cues.



At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85656.79 up by 468.19 points or by 0.55 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26305.8 up by 159.25 points or by 0.61 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85706.49 and intraday low of 85068.88 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26314.55 and intraday low of 26118.4



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 349.25,+3.85%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 990.65,+1.90%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 271.00,+1.56%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 903.50,+1.48%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 16956.45,+1.44%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 349.75,-3.90%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1281.05,-1.06%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2204.85,-0.60%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1267.00,-0.57%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2104.10,-0.28%), among others.



Power index was at 6708.26 up by 131.13 points or by 1.99%. Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 1399.40,+5.42%), NHPC Ltd. (Rs. 83.72,+5.03%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 349.25,+3.85%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 54.01,+2.90%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 392.50,+2.80%),.



FMCG index was at 19485.91 down by -256.07 points or by -1.3%. Cupid Ltd. (Rs. 419.95,-19.99%), Radico Khaitan Ltd. (Rs. 3105.05,-4.58%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 349.75,-3.90%), Prataap Snacks Ltd. (Rs. 1182.05,-2.56%), Mrs. Bectors Food Specialities Ltd. (Rs. 242.80,-1.74%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4489 , shares advanced were 2792 while 1504 shares declined and 193 were unchanged.
