Sensex down 175 pts, Nifty tests 26,200; Oil & Gas shares drag

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 opened lower today amid mixed global cues, dragged by weakness in oil and gas stocks.



At 9:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85263.63 down by -175.99 points or by -0.21 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26200 down by -50.3 points or by -0.19 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 85331.79 and intraday low of 85007.67 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26238.6 and intraday low of 26144.7



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1407.00,+2.59%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2068.20,+1.41%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1301.45,+1.21%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2841.90,+0.97%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3243.00,+0.88%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1533.00,-2.82%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 276.65,-1.83%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 961.10,-1.70%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1479.85,-0.85%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3771.75,-0.52%), among others.



Metal index was at 38266.04 up by 389.78 points or by 1.03%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 344.85,+4.20%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 958.45,+2.88%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 640.15,+1.88%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 623.75,+1.32%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 84.50,+0.74%),.



Oil&Gas index was at 28341.68 down by -227.27 points or by -0.8%. Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1533.55,-2.78%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3554 , shares advanced were 1625 while 1718 shares declined and 211 were unchanged.
