Sensex plunges 236 points; NSE Nifty at 26212.1

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty continued to trade lower on Tuesday, weighed down by heavy selling in blue-chip stocks such as Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank.



Market sentiment was further dampened by concerns over a fresh warning from the United States to raise tariffs on India, adding to risk aversion among investors.



At 10:50 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 85203.18 down by -236.44 points or by -0.28 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26212.1 down by -38.2 points or by -0.15 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 85397.78 and intraday low of 85007.67 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26273.95 and intraday low of 26144.7



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1411.40,+2.91%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 918.00,+2.06%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2072.20,+1.61%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1015.30,+0.99%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1743.70,+0.78%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1523.50,-3.42%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 963.50,-1.45%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1300.60,-1.03%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 5051.55,-0.98%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 279.55,-0.80%), among others.



Metal index was at 38256.45 up by 380.19 points or by 1%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 347.90,+5.12%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 964.55,+3.54%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 644.85,+2.63%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 625.00,+1.53%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1189.90,+0.30%),.



Oil&Gas index was at 28068.16 down by -500.79 points or by -1.75%. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 474.65,-3.61%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 364.55,-3.55%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1523.50,-3.42%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 161.40,-2.15%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 171.10,-1.13%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4040 , shares advanced were 1705 while 2096 shares declined and 239 were unchanged.
