Sensex plunges 715 points; NTPC, ICICI Bank top losers

Indian benchmark indices continued to trade lower during the noon trading session weighed down by selling in NTPC Ltd. ICICI Bank Ltd. Bharti Airtel Ltd, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. among others.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83465.15 down by -715.81 points or by -0.85 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25652.05 down by -224.8 points or by -0.87 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 84406.22 and intraday low of 83402.28 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25940.6 and intraday low of 25651.9



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2825.00,+1.37%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1658.25,+0.61%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 284.75,+0.44%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1582.95,+0.34%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1471.15,+0.06%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 336.00,-2.35%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1403.00,-2.25%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2026.00,-1.95%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1729.75,-1.80%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1439.05,-1.75%), among others.



Oil&Gas index was at 27249.81 up by 127.16 points or by 0.47%. Oil India Ltd. (Rs. 420.30,+2.57%), Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 288.35,+1.71%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 233.85,+1.04%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 157.70,+0.73%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 164.30,+0.52%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4437 , shares advanced were 1110 while 3131 shares declined and 196 were unchanged.
