Sensex drops 398 pts; APSEZ, Bharti Airtel top losers

Equity markets opened on a subdued-to-negative note on Monday, despite largely positive cues from global markets, as investors remained cautious and selective in early trade.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83178.22 down by -398.02 points or by -0.48 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25568.75 down by -114.55 points or by -0.45 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 83617.53 and intraday low of 83043.45 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25700.95 and intraday low of 25529.05



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 889.60,+0.85%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2387.80,+0.59%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2835.00,+0.37%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1274.75,+0.22%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 1301.30,+0.18%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1413.05,-1.58%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 2002.30,-1.23%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3978.95,-1.19%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 255.55,-1.16%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 950.30,-1.07%), among others.



FMCG index was at 19170.07 up by -17.03 points or by -0.09%. Cupid Ltd. (Rs. 429.55,+1.91%), Varun Beverages Ltd. (Rs. 495.45,+1.35%), Hatsun Agro Products Ltd. (Rs. 947.90,+1.24%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2388.10,+0.60%), Tata Consumer Products Ltd. (Rs. 1180.60,+0.43%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3760 , shares advanced were 893 while 2658 shares declined and 209 were unchanged.
