Sensex, Nifty in red; metal, IT drag

Indian benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty were trading in the red on Friday, dragged down by losses in metal and IT stocks, which weighed on overall market sentiment.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82342.47 down by -223.9 points or by -0.27 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25336.1 down by -82.8 points or by -0.33 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 82430.82 and intraday low of 81941.03 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25370.7 and intraday low of 25213.65



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 1080.20,+1.47%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3434.30,+1.44%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3977.35,+0.99%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 321.80,+0.99%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 448.15,+0.82%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 192.95,-4.65%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 255.90,-1.78%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1359.60,-1.77%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1739.55,-1.60%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3775.00,-1.26%), among others.



FMCG index was at 18702.15 up by 238.03 points or by 1.29%. Kaveri Seed Company Ltd. (Rs. 934.00,+8.32%), Cupid Ltd. (Rs. 416.00,+6.60%), Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd. (Rs. 369.55,+5.50%), Gillette India Ltd. (Rs. 8750.05,+5.27%), Bajaj Consumer Care Ltd. (Rs. 339.45,+4.98%),.



Metal index was at 39005.81 down by -1935.69 points or by -4.73%. Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 634.00,-11.40%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 692.00,-9.67%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 389.55,-9.19%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 963.65,-5.97%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 192.95,-4.65%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4476 , shares advanced were 2451 while 1840 shares declined and 185 were unchanged.
