Sensex down 833 points; SBI top loser

Indian benchmark indices continued to hover in red during the noon trading session following the Union Budget 2026 announcement of higher securities transaction tax (STT) on futures and options (F&O) trades.



At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 81436.21 down by -833.57 points or by -1.01 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25012.8 down by -307.85 points or by -1.22 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 82726.65 and intraday low of 79899.42 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25440.9 and intraday low of 24571.75



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4090.95,+2.85%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3204.45,+2.54%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1612.70,+1.11%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1657.10,+1.01%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1744.25,+0.05%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 1030.90,-4.33%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 429.70,-4.30%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1373.95,-3.08%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 903.80,-2.87%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 313.15,-2.81%), among others.



IT index was at 37040.74 up by 425.26 points or by 1.16%. Onward Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 348.50,+8.52%), InfoBeans Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 860.10,+6.80%), Affle 3I Ltd. (Rs. 1631.40,+5.47%), Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1283.00,+5.23%), Netweb Technologies India Ltd. (Rs. 3303.55,+5.04%),.



PSU index was at 20805.55 down by -679.1 points or by -3.16%. Hindustan Copper Ltd. (Rs. 601.10,-12.45%), Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1406.20,-8.55%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4388 , shares advanced were 1856 while 2342 shares declined and 190 were unchanged.
