The benchmark indices closed Tuesday’s volatile session in the green for the second consecutive day, driven by strong gains in public sector banks and information technology (IT) stocks, even as global cues remained subdued.
Overseas, Asian stocks ended mixed on Tuesday as investors monitored the latest developments on the geopolitical front and awaited cues from upcoming U.S. economic readings. German stock market is modestly higher on Tuesday in cautious trading with investors digesting the final inflation data and continuing to follow geopolitical news.
Meanwhile, Oil prices were mixed on Tuesday amid easing geopolitical tensions in Iran and Russia. Traders were also reacting to reports suggesting that OPEC+ is considering resuming output hikes in April. Gold extended losses to dip toward $4,900 an ounce on Tuesday, pressured by easing geopolitical tensions and a stronger dollar.
On the corporate front, Akums Drugs and Pharmaceutical share price gained 6 per cent intraday in Tuesday's session. While KWIL, which made its stock market debut on February 16 following the demerger of the ice cream business from Hindustan Unilever, plummeted 5 percent.
The 30-share benchmark index closed trading at 83450.96 up by 173.81 points or by 0.21 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25725.4 up by 42.65 points or by 0.17 %.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 83598 and intraday low of 82987.43 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25764.4 and intraday low of 25570.30.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 325.30,+2.31%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 446.90,+2.02%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4279.35,+1.84%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1391.20,+1.83%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2436.80,+1.67%), among others.
Kwality Wall's (India) Ltd. (Rs. 28.04,-4.98%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 281.60,-1.56%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 203.10,-1.29%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 4174.90,-1.28%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1422.80,-0.95%), among others were the losers.
